Stone Cold Locks Week 16

The NY Jets became my nemesis last week,
but once Troy Polamalu was out another 3-0
week was clearly in jeopardy. A 2-1 week
is still a strong 35-7 record but the streak
of 18 straight wins is now over and the picks
will become more difficult, I'm just glad I
didn't pick Dallas over Arizona otherwise I
would have been heading in the wrong direction.
Let's try to start a new woin streak and keep
rolling, here are this weeks picks.

Stone Cold Locks Week 15

Another 3-0 week, and the wins just keep on coming.
A really strong 33-6 record and that should take me
to about 18 straight wins. Let's keep on rolling,
here are this weeks picks.

Whipping Boy Of The Day ?

Not Really. Though it's true that the
NY Rangers won a shootout on their home
ice last night vs the Phoenix Coyotes,
give the Coyotes and the goaltender
Tom Fenton a little more credit than the
one point that will show up in their
standings. You see, Tom was getting a
haircut that afternoon and wasn't even
a member of the Coyotes when hew received
a call to start. Think that's no biggie?
Well not only was he not a member of the
team, he had never been a pro before,
wasn't part of any team at the time, and
was working at Manhattanville College in
their community relations department.
You can't make this stuff up.

Hot Under The Collar?

Todd Haley is clearly showing how much of a
rookie he is to the head coaching business
by avoiding this post game tradition of
shaking hands with Josh McDaniels after his
team got spanked on Sunday. Perhaps he's
feeling the pressure of blowing his early
season first place cushion, or maybe getting
pushed around by a team that only two weeks
ago gave up 59 points on their home field to
the Raiders is too much to deal with.
Whatever the case may be, he might want to
take a lesson from coaching great Joe Gibbs
who's Redskins got their asses handed to them
by the Patriots during their run for a perfect
season and still managed to brush aside the
running up of the score by the Pats.
Though McDaniels is a young brash brat in his own
right he got the same two weeks earlier and seemed
to have made no complaints about it, and though
I am certainly not a fan of running up the score
on anyone it does seems that Hasley can take a lesson
from McDaniels on this one.

Last week "Ranting with Rizzo" was a "Best of"
since I was away to the west coast to catch

Stone Cold LOCKS!

The season totals stand at a very disappointing 13-5
and though that may satisfy some, it doesn't please
me because a lock is supposed to be a LOCK! JPA posted

Quick hits

Roy Halladay may have thrown a no-hitter in
his first post season appearance but the fact
is his record stands at 1-1 with a human 2.25
era in two career post season starts. YES, I
will certainly take it any day of the week,
BUT not if I had to trade Cliff Lee to get it.
As of right now Cliff Lee is a super human 7-0
in the post season with a beauty of an era
that fell to 1.37 in 8 post season starts.
PS I said this prior to this post season,
and when the trade was made to begin with.

Mike Singletary is NOT Head Coach material,
neither are Norv Turner or Wade Phillips for
that matter. They do make good coordinators
though, well at least Phillips and Turner do.

Dallas will still make the Playoffs,
Minnesota may not though.
San Diego wont come back from this
early season flop, and if they do it's only
because they play in a very weak AFC West.

Sports Trivia Contest Winners Announced

It was a fun contest to run and there were many
correct answers, so we went to the raffle drawing
when all else was exhausted, and we have our
winners. Thanks for participating ! I hope you
enjoyed it as much as I did.

Breaking News Via Jay Glazer ! Again !!!

Jay Glazer is on fire today, and realistically
when isn't he. Seems he's got the pulse on the
latest fireball, which is the return of Randy
Moss to Minnesota.
Seems like it very well
will happen. If the Vikes can PAY Randy.

Around The NFL

Just some random thoughts I wanted to share with
you about the early part of the season so far:

Did you get the feeling that the Bill Cowher to the
NY Giants rumors were going to get really loud if
the G men got blown out on Sunday night?

Do you think the KC Chiefs(2-0) are really that good?
Well then take this into account if you do (I don't
think many of you do): The NFL is a copycat league
as we all know, and once they study the film you'll
realize why the 6-0 Broncos of 2009 finished 8-8

Do you think the Oakland Raiders are still that bad?
Then take this into account if you do (I think that
many of you do): In 2009 the 5-11 Raiders averaged
12.3 points per game, this year the 1-3 Raiders are
averaging 19 points per game and could be (woulda,
coulda, shoulda
) 2-2 if not for a missed 31 yard
field goal to end the game at Arizona last week.
Not enough? Their only win comes against the 2-2
Rams who since that loss have won two in a row, and
their victims have been the Donovan McNabb lead,
Mike Shanahan coached Washington Redskins, and the
2-2 Seattle Seahawks. So maybe they're not THAT bad.

Do you get the feeling that head coaching just isn't
Mike Singletary's thing?

Most anticipated matchup in week 5 has to Jets-Vikes

Who's better the 2-1 Bucs or the 0-4 49'ers?

And finally, Do the Steelers get better now that
Big Ben returns or do they take a half step back
in the short term?

Breaking News Via Jay Glazer !

Jay Glazer looks to be the first to get the
scoop on the trade for Marshawn Lynch's trade
to Seattle.

Breaking News ! Bob Golic Back In Football

Last weeks interview with Michael D. Dwyer,
the man trying to bring the USFL back from
it's extinction was just the first of many
pieces of news that will be coming from that
league, and now they have the first of many
to come "names" attached to their proposed
reemergence. A source close to the situation
has confirmed that Bob Golic has agreed to
head their "Competition & Rules" committee.
Golic a former NFL lineman and member of the
New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and
LA Raiders is also the brother of Mike Golic
of ESPN's "Mike & Mike" radio morning team.
More announcements in the the way of league
commissioner, schedule and coaches are expected
in the very near future.

"Ranting With Rizzo" & The USFL

This week we have the opportunity to chat with
Founder and Chairman of the New USFL Michael D.
Dwyer. As always go touch on many things sports,
and The Sports Trivia Challenge Grand Prize keeps
on getting bigger, and we have now included a prize
for the runner up. So step right up and take
your shot, and enter as many times as you like !

NFL Goes to 47 Game Season to Accomadate CJ2K Quest for 2500 yards

Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans boasted that
this year he would reach 2,500 yards rushing, but
if his first two games this year are any indication,
then that is nothing more than illusion on his part.
CJ had one breakaway run vs the Raiders due to a
defensive breakdown on the Part of FS Michael Huff
(He was benched for the next defensive series).
If you subtract only that run from CJ's total so
far in 2010, then you'll see that he has a total of
100 rush yards on 42 rush attempts this season for a
grand total average of 2.38 YPA. If that is a pattern
that teams are starting to key in on CJ then it would
take Mr Johnson almost 47 games at an average of 53.25
yards per game to achieve his feat 2,500 yards rushing
in a single season. His average in the Raider game
minus his one breakaway run was was slightly higher
at 2.54 yards per carry, and vs the Steelers it was
2.125. So he better hope he has a few more of those
76 yard runs mixed in, otherwise the NFL may truly need
to go to a 47 game season to accommodate CJ2k's desire!

NY Jets Are The Devil

Poor poor Inés Sáinz was cruelly subjected to all
that boorish locker room behavior and vile male
chest thumping all with an overflow of male
testosterone, when all she was trying to do was
be a good, sound journalist. Why can't
these guys just respect that she's a professional
first and not just another piece of meat !

Stone Cold NFL Locks

Last week I won all three fo my games
by a total 13 points, and any of them
could have gone either way, but I was
confident and a win is a win. So here
I am looking to start the season 6-0 and
I'm even more confident this week.

Dallas

Green Bay

Carolina

They may not be the sexiest picks, but I
guess they'll do the job ! Feel free to

Bad Day at Blue Rock?

Showing once again that it means something
between these two schools when they meet,
North Carolina makes sure to exact a revenge
joy, no matter how little by beating vaunted
state rival Duke 1-0 in Soccer, Yes, Soccer.

Duke sure didn't do a good job of letting their
football team speak for how frustrated they were
as the next day the Blue Devils also got it handed
to them
on the Football field.

How The J-E-T-S Season May REALLY Look

They may have played the second best (According
to coach Rex Ryan)Defense in the NFL tonight, but
they didn't really give their fans any hope to be
optimistic. Yup, only one game, but a look at
their schedule may put things into a little more
perspective and make you realize that they have
farther to go than they would like you to believe.
Hopefully the Bears will make a run at a perfect
season and rest their starters (LOL), and the
Bills will lay down in hopes that they can get
Jake Locker with the number one overall pick
in the 2011 NFL Draft. That way they can sneak
in like they did last year and pump their chests
loud and proud on how they "almost" went to the
Super Bowl. Of course alomost only counts in
horseshoes and hand grenades, and fortunately
we don't have any of those to think about around
here. GO J-E-T-S !

Draft? or Daft? Experts

The next time the NFL Draft rolls along and your
team has a high draft pick, pray they trade down.
As sexy as the high draft picks are an article in
the Yale Alumni magazine points out that Cade Massey
Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior, Yale
School of Management finds that years of performance
data that was analyzed determined that teams are lousy
predicting which players will be stars and which won't.
Massey goes on to say that the odds of picking a star
are no better than a coin toss, and for years he has
been advising teams to trade away their first round
picks for lots of lower round picks, or more coin tosses
as he puts it. To make this point even more curious is
the fact that a team employee told Massey that the team
owner "believes you" but he just doesn't think that this
applies to him. No hint of arrogance their of course.
Hey, maybe Bill Belichick knows what he's doing after all.

World Cup Tidbits

Diego Furlan has been a real star in this tournament,
and even though he's not playing in the final, I'm
glad that we get to see him at least one more time
in South Africa in the 3rd place game. He really
does have game and a killer leg to boot.(No pun
intended).

Yes the officiating was bad, BUT, are you really
surprised? It made me mad, scream, yell, bitch
and moan, and yet, I should have expected it.

Landon Donovan was on his game, but the rest of
the team needs to catch up, and when they do
I hope it's not too late for Landon, as World
Cup competition is cruel and old men don't get
to play far past 32. 32? Old ? ? YES, OLD !
The 2016 tourny in Brazil could be the last for him.

With that a note on my Italian WC Champ brethren.
YOU LOOKED OLD, but you'll always be those Champs.

Although it's fair to say that I picked England to
win it all, and I of course rooted for Italy and the
US, I still have teams that I root for to which I
have no connection. The aforementioned England is
one the and the "Oranje Crush" Dutch are another.
Now, though as I have stated previously that is will
be nice to see a new team win the Cup, meaning one
that's never one it before, I am still rooting for
the Netherlands. In my opinion, the Spaniards seem
better, but I'm still waiting for the real Spanish
team that has a history of choking in the WC to
show up, and yes though I know that this is a new
cast of characters, it does somehow play a factor
in teams psyche. This might be the ugliest team
the Dutch have sent in recent history, in style
and talent that is, and with that my head says the
more talented Spaniards will win. Remember the
Dutch have a little history of their own, 0-2 in
WC Finals Championship games. But I think that
the Dutch will do what the Germans failed to, and
that is be more physical, and punish the Spaniards.
They did it to Brazil, and physicality to me has
been a hidden trademark of this tourny, so I expect
it to continue to be a Dutch theme if they are to
throw the more talented Spaniards off, and walk
away with the trophy for the first time.

MLB All Star Voting. It Never Ends.

If you haven't heard the ads encouraging you
to vote your teams players on to the MLB
All Star roster then you obviously have missed
out on the chance to make your vote count.
Again, and again, and again, etc., etc.
What a JOKE !, as if the All Star game didn't
have enough problems. Who was the Bozo that
thought it would be a good idea to allow fans to
vote for each player up to TWENTY FIVE times ! ?
Baseball is very slowing but surely slipping into
the ranks of WWE, and though it may never fully
reach those depths, it's a shame to even mention
it in the same breathe. It just might be time
for a change at the top, just maybe.

Debut "Ranting With Rizzo" Show

After leaving "The Sports Round Table" on

to do my own show there and here it is.
Tonight was the debut, and you can catch

Runs That Come In More Ways Than One

Yankee fans may not give a shiat as to why
Chan Ho Park was terrible his first few
outings with the Bombers, but at least they
were legitimate "runs".

A Midget Amongst Giants

Although it is quite clear that this
does not have the fanfare of a Tiger
Woods Thanksgiving melodrama, it is
however to the wives involved and wives
everywhere insulting to say that one offense
is bigger or worse per say than other.
Tiki Barber has without question though
made people want to rank and compare
when it comes to this latest indiscretion
of gigantic proportions, and that is to say the
very least, SAD. It is reported in the NY
Post and may soon warrant a huge Thank You
card by Tiger woods himself for deflecting
any heat what so ever from his debacle.

Good, Bad & Ugly? Not Quite

Here we have two athletes in slightly different
mindsets today. One who seems more of the
space head variety actually turns in a special
type of gesture.
One that deserves praise.
The other turns in the type of performance
that you might expect, yet still deserves quite
a large round of booing for not being a lot more
cognizant of what of fool this is making him look
like. Maybe it's time to get better advisors!

No More St. John's on St. Joseph's

Today is traditionally the Italian feast of St Joseph,
or San Giuseppe to people in the know, and it also
happens to be the day or the last day rather for
St' John's head basketball coach Norm Roberts as
the teams coach. It is worth noting that he did leave
the team better than he found it, yet he was never
able to get over the hump if you will, but I will
say this; because of him this team will see the
tournament again, too bad he couldn't be part
of it. I guess after six years though you really
can't blame the school for wanting to try something
else and see how that goes

Every Once In A While.........

A player does the right thing and along the
way leads by example without ever even
trying to do so. You may have never heard
of Scott Fujita, but he's not your stereo typical
Asian American, and he's more than just a
former linebacker on the NFL Champion Saints!

Lead By Example, YOU PUTZ!

It's really unfortunate when some of the good
ole boy rules of yesteryear happen to get in
the way of teaching the kids you coach the
difference between standing by someone and
standing by someone THE WRONG WAY !
Because no matter how you phrase it, theft is
never a good thing, and neither is hiding
behind lies and shadows.

Drugs Are Always A "Dead End"

Politicians usually have a way of making
things worse, but every once in a while
they get it right. In this case I hope
that the Mark McGwire Highway truly hits
the dead end the we want our kids to know
that drugs will lead you into.

McGrady Not So McLucky

Good thing the Knicks got Tracy McGrady and
all that scoring power to battle that offensive
juggernaut known as the Milwaukee Bucks for
last nights game. Heavens knows that they
would have gotten murdered without him.

Certainly NOT Part Of The Braintrust

It's quite obvious that some athletes are nothing
more than just that, athletes. They should never
be allowed to make public statements, or voice
their opinions even without someone going over
the script. Johnny Damon's remarks here, though
quite innocent are an insult to the fan bases of
all the stops he's made along the way in his
baseball career. Now you might understand why
on a more important matter Tiger Woods sounded
link he was reading a script. He was !

Unemployed All Stars?

LaDainian Tomlinson, Julius Peppers, Terrell Owens
and more to come it seems will be at least for the
time being available to the highest bidder.
I will add this though, LT may not have been the
player he used to be anymore, but the Chargers
figure to take a huge step back as an organization
for letting a guy like that from their history
just hit the skids like this. Expect a decline.

Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy

When asking yourself what he might be thinking,
you may also want to consider what he was using
to think with. JJ amazes in this instance.

USA USA USA

Last nights USA-Canada game was great to watch,
and it's certainly easy to say when your side
wins, yes I can't deny that win or lose the
game being called by Doc Emerick is by far, and
hands down hall of fame quality. He is head
and shoulders one of the games very best !

Greg Oden Apologizes for his nude pictures on the

Andre Dawson will be going into the Baseball Hall

I know I don't.

Oakland A's top prospect becomes a Padre. No NOT
that kind of Padre, the other kind.

Good thing most of the guys aren't the A-Team
or else they will have plenty of time for safari
while their down there.

Best line I saw on the internet regarding Lane
Kiffin leaving Tennessee for USC is "Kiffin
uses Trojans to screw Volunteers", well they
ain't the only ones getting screwed by Trojans.

News & Notes, My Way

Here's a few stories I thought you might find
interesting enough to stop and look at. I did !

Wondering how a young guy like Gaines Adams can
stop and drop dead all of a sudden without being
an abuser or loser? Here ya go!

Fixing the NY Giants defense is going to take a
big man, and I think the Giants made a solid choice.

Most of the time Serena Williams is a bit of an ass,
on on this occasion she got some of it right.

The Buffalo Bills got turned down by a great many
choices, but today they got their(a) man. He's
got a winning record in the pros, including NFL
Europe when it was still called the WLAF (World
League of American Football), and college.
He just needs to get that next level thing going
as he has never won a championship of sorts.
But all in all, a good choice. That being said
if you were following Mad Stork Sports on Twitter
Sunday you would have realized that I was right
on the money when I pointed out that Marty
Schottenheimer wanted the job, and kinda wants
back into coaching bad.

Headlines Abound

Keith Brooking isn't a sore loser, he just
thinks there's a certain way of doing things.
I'm not sure he's wrong.

Another rising star burns out too quickly.

Another day on Planet Starbury.

Miguel Tejada "Mans Up"

NBA players get called for "Hand" ball.

Just not in the right frame of mind to go on.
Can you blame him?

A Different Kinda X Game

The Ravens are out and the Jets keep shocking
people. Simple algebra, subtract Rex Ryan from
Baltimore and add him to the Jets, and that my
friends is the X factor. The Jets may not win
the Super Bowl, but he's taking them for one heck
of a ride. Look for Mark Sanchez to screw it up
eventually, that Rex can't help.

Laughable Moments

I couldn't think of a better title for this posting as
for me some of these stories couldn't get or seem any
better than they are.

We start with two former St. Louis Cardinal "LEGENDS"
that took Mark McGwires recent revelations and chewed
on them and then spit them out. A much deserved round
of applause for these two for telling it like it is.

Next comes one from outta NY that definitely has some
Giants fans wishing that they had never won the Super
Bowl against the Patriots a couple of years ago. As
crazy as it sounds you have to read this to understand.

And lastly I will leave you with a HI-larious video
of Peyton Manning nearly making a much bigger mistake
than any INT he has ever thrown. LOL (laugh out loud)
I though it was worth it!

BREAKING NEWS----------------------- Tennessee Hires A New Head Coach

BREEEEAKING NEEEEEWS ! ! !

So maybe Mr Davis wasn't wrong after
all. Lane Kiffin really is a weasel.
Face it Tennessee, you ain't USC !

Linked Up Tuesday

Here's some stories worth following if
your sports itch needs some scratch.

A true World Series would be awesome
if it could be realized in our lifetime, and
even more awesome it it met Bud Selig's
timetable. We ain't talkin' World Classic
here, or something like that.

If you think the NFL salary caps' possible
disappearance if going to be easy to
figure out, just take a look at a rule
you just may not know that much about.
It's sure to raise some eyebrows on
some level for you.

So wait just one second here. You mean
to tell me that a good way to fix a huge
problem with your horrible offense is to
hire a guy who just got fired for having
a horrible offense?

Doesn't really look like the Celtics are
going to be hitting that 72 win mark anytime
soon, and if they do, it is certain that they
won't want to face the pesky Atlanta Hawks
who up to this point are responsible for at
least 3 Boston losses but none of their W's.

So the strongest Union in America has flexed
it's muscles once again! The Florida Marlins
have been doing just fine spending a few
dollars more than the Newark Bears and yet
outperforming most MLB teams, but no, that's
not good enough, spend more they must.
Ah yes capitalism at it's best !

Don't you think the Knicks have enough to
worry about, than to worry whether or not
ghosts are real or not?

NOT So BREAKING NEWS

So Jay Glazer of Fox Sports has out scooped
everyone else once again, but respectfully
speaking, he could have called this one in
week eight, without a source it was so
obvious it needed to be done. No Mora to say.

Short tempers make coaches bad coaches, and
it's time for some of these folks to realize
that coaches like Woody Hayes and Bear Bryant
don't get away with these sorts of things in
the digital age that is the 21st century.
Nah nah nah hey hey good bye.

If Only It Was JUST Silly II

Some people just need to get a life.
.
.
.
.

If Only It Was JUST Silly

Looks like the Pacquio Mayweather fight
turned into a pissing match of sorts
after all. Pun intended.

So the Redskins pulled the trigger and got
their man in Mike Shanahan for 5 Years and
$35 million, but let's not forget that they
could have avoided all of this by keeping
Marty Schottenheimer years ago and they would
have been a winning program all along. Yes,
Marty doesn't have the rings that Shanny has,
BUT, Shanahan no longer has Elway, and has done
nothing without him. You might even say that
Marty has a better overall body of work having
done it with many more teams and had he had John
Elway he might be just as revered. It just so
happens however that Elway is the reason Marty
has suffered such disappointment throughout his
career, or at least the beginning of those
disappointments.

Props and a huge shout out to David Stern and
the NBA for not allowing Gilbert Arenas to
continue to shoot himself in the foot.

Congratulations to Andre Dawson for getting into
the baseball Hall of Fame. I personally am not
sure he's deserving of that honor, but then again
I can't make a case against him either. These
days the lines are so muddled it's hard to decide
one way or the other, especially when it's kinda
close. At least in my eyes it is. I guess what
I'm trying to say is, Nice job Andre.

Interesting Stuff

I admit I didn't watch the whole game,
BUT I did watch bit and pieces throughout
and most of the second half, and almost
all of the 4th quarter. So with that
said, I'm not sure what game this guy
was watching, but at least Dan Wetzel
thought it had some merit. I think.

Whether this story is true or not, it is
too funny if it is. What I mean is the
story going around now about WHY, Tiger
Woods is still MIA
after all this time.
Tooooo Funny. Man, this just keeps getting
better and better. Hard to make up too !

Sad news outta, NY/LA for the Jets.
Seems like a playoff victory is the least
of ownerships worries. Our Condolences.
