NFL Stone Cold NFL Locks Week 10

   
    
I feel a hot streak coming on after another disappointing
week without a 3-0 mark.  2-1 is nice, but it's hardly
a guarantee, and that's what "Stone Cold Locks" are
supposed to be.  So Giddyup, here is a 3-0 week for
you, and confidence in improving on the terrible 17-9
record so far this season. 
  
1. Pittsburgh - like sending lambs to the slaughter, the
Steelers are getting better, and the Chiefs are just bad
enough that the could lose to the one loss Alabama
Crimson Tide.   
 
2. Seattle - Pete Carroll said it again this week, and I
agreed with him the first time and again now, "Mark
Sanchez left college too early".  The 12th man in Seattle
will rattle the Sanchise and the rest of his teammates. 
  
3. San Francisco - The Rams are better, but they're not
ready for this type of battle with the Niners.  Could be
as bloody as the Chiefs loss, but that's just too hard
to imagine.

First Tim Tebow, And Now Terrell Owens

How many teams need publicity that bad that they
can't help but fall all over themselves to be part
of the next big headline grabber? There will be
those that are ready to argue that some if not all
of these moves are "good" football decisions, but
when you look at them up close it's hard to take
that very seriously.

It's been less than 24 hours since Boomer Esiason
made his feelings known and stated that the NY Jets
should cut Tim Tebow, and now the Seahawks go on
and ink a guy that should have already retired,
Terrell Owens. Though I don't necessarily agree
with Boomer that cutting Tebow is the best way to
go here, I will say that they never should have
traded for him to begin with. Cutting Tebow would
be like taking two draft picks and throwing them
in the trash. At least see if you can re-trade
him and get something back for your boneheaded
decision. Make no mistake here the Jets knew what
they were doing, they were trying to sell seats,
and that's exactly what he will do.

Now T.O. is a Seattle Seahawk, and you have to
wonder with Pete Carroll pulling the strings in
Seattle if the coaching seat is getting hot, and
he's looking for a Hail Mary to save him. Maybe
sell out a few more games, increase the local TV
ratings, and throw some interference at the owner
on the fact that he's in year three, and on his
fifth QB, and still hasn't won anything.

Though you won't catch last years conference
champion New England Patriots and N.Y. Giants
making these sorts of moves, there are still a
few teams that are ripe for this type of circus
like attention. The Jaguars were fighting the
Jets for a shot at Tebow, and if Brett Favre
came back within the next couple of years, you
can bet that someone would make a play for him.
There really is no shortage of teams that would
make a play for this circus type publicity from
time to time, just teams that wouldn't.

NFL Stone Cold Locks Week 12

3- 0 last week drives the record to 28-5 for the year, but
it still sees a title disappointingconsidering what it
should be if teams had played up to their level of talent.
This weeks winners are as follows:

1. Atlanta - Time to start living up to the championship hype

2. Seattle - First and last time you will see it this year

3. Pittsburgh - C'mon, the Chiefs are That BAD

NFC West Or The NFL's Worst?

Though it true the NFC Worst, uh West no longer has
a winless team in its ranks, this far excuses it
from stinking up the joint. Remove a rejuvinated
49er team ,and the combined winning percentage of
the remaining three is .190. If you combined the
number of wins of Seattle, Arizona, and St. Louis
they would still have TWO less wins than the six
San Francisco currently holds. I picked the Rams
to win this division, so I didn't see this coming,
so it's a good thing they got a fresh, shiny, brand
new Championship in that city to take their minds
off the misery that was supposed to be the Rams
breakout year. For all the talk that is/was Kevin
Kolb, and mind you I never believed it, what is
this 1-6 record they are sporting? Seattle I
thought brought the NFL and pro football to a new
low last season when they won the division with
a sub .500 record at 7-9, but there is no shot
that there will be a repeat of that this year.
I just don't get how parity is the constant theme
in the NFL and these three can't seem to be at
least mediocre. I thing I can tell you for sure
though: there could be at least one more victory
in that division this week, the Rams face the
Cardinals. They could of course always end in a
tie, so no guarantees.

Did The Raiders Win By Losing?

Just a thought: The Oakland Raiders lost three
players this off season to free agancy who were
arguably three of their best at their respective
positions. Nnamdi Asomougha (Eagles), Robert
Gallery (Seahawks), and Zach Miller (Seahawks).
The Raiders going into their bye week are 4-3,
the teams these three went to are 4-8 combined,
each are 2-4, and though Eagles were supposed to
be the next great team, I knew the Seahags were
going nowhere. I don't blame Asomougha for their
lack of success, though Eagles fans would blame
Mary Poppins if they could, but did the Raiders
get better by losing out on some of their better
playes? Sometimes you gotta wonder.

NFL Stone Cold Locks Week 2

Last weeks "Locks" turned out to be anything
but, and yet I still managed to post a 2-1
record. Let's chalk that up to getting a feel
for things opening week, and now it's time to
start making the locks look more like "LOCKS".
Here goes:

1. Pittsburgh (It's Seattle, so no problem)
2. New Orleans (Saints not gonna start 0-2)
3. Detroit (KC is less than a paper tiger)

NFC West: How It Will Look In The End

I'll be posting my 2011 division standings
predictions one at a time in no particular
order, and yes I will pick em from first
to last. Today I'll start off with the
NFC West:

1. St. Louis Rams (Yes, they have arrived)
2. Arizona Cardinals (They edge out SF for 2nd)
3. SF 49er's (Harbaugh year one, needs a QB)
4. Seattle Seahawks (7-9, ha!, not this time)

All The Right Moves? Well, Sometimes

Nowadays it's quite common to take shots at Al Davis
in the media, and truth be told, most that do are either
looking to fill some news space or too young to remember
that along with the likes of Dan Rooney, Wellington Mara,
George Halas, etc. of the world he is as much responsible
for the Multi Billion Dollar success of the NFL as they
are in many regards. You could also say that there were
times where he seemed to be a detriment to the league as
well, but what powerful league figure hasn't been accused
of that?

Saturday's game between the embarrassingly playoff bound 7-9
Seattle Seahawks and the defending Super Bowl Champion New
Orleans Saints was just one more example as to how many
things, be it in the NFL or life itself are interconnected.
Pete Carrol did Al Davis a favor that day. One that Davis
did want, need, or even ask for, but nonetheless he did.
Al has been taking a bit of flack from Raider fans and non
Raider fans alike for his decision not to renew the contract
of Tom Cable his head coach for the past 2 1/2 years.
I too thought this was a mistake, and in a small way have a
hard time admitting that it still might not be a mistake,
but after that debacle that was a title defense of sorts by
those miserable Saints, something Al said after the Raiders
finished their 2010 season with a victory came to mind.
He was asked if he thought their 8-8 record was an improvement
from recent seasons past (I'm paraphrasing here). His response
seemed harsh at the time, but made sense if your an owner that
wants to put a winner on the field. He said " If that's
the world you live in". At the time I kind of took it as
a snappy type of remark, but you see, his job or desire if you
wish is to win another Championship, not to make friends,
I'm sure he already has too many of those. If Pete Carrol
can take his 7-9 rag tag bunch into the playoffs and get one
step closer to a championship, one that would be an embarrassment
might I add, then why shouldn't he expect the same out of his
team and his coach? I'm sure that one of things that probably
annoyed Davis, even though the decision was made well before that
game was the fact that his Raiders had defeated those very same
Seahawks 33-3 this very season, and that the Raiders 8-8 mark,
though not good enough in his mind was still better than theirs.

Those who choose too criticize Al's football decisions should keep
in mind his many accomplishments as well. Under the watch of
Al Davis the Raiders have won more Super Bowl games than 43%
of NFL Teams combined, and they have appeared in at least one
Super Bowl game in every decade excluding this one so far.
I could bore you by going on and on with this, but I won't.
I will however speak to those that choose to say that it's time
for Grandpa Al to move over and let someone else take over the
franchise. Probably the same folks that would be quick to find
a spot for their parents or grandparents in the nearest nursing
home the minute they became useless to their needs. We live in
a what have you done for me a second ago society, but should
realize that we will be in that position sooner or later as well,
and we may not want to be judged so quickly or harshly when it's
our turn. Don't like that argument? Well how about this then?
It's his team, he can do as he wishes, even if it means not
thanking Pete Carrol for a favor he didn't ask for.
