Yankees Collapse In ALCS, Inevitable

 
 
You don't have to be a Yankee hater or detractor to say I told
so on this one.  Critics and experts have been warning Yankee
fans all year, live by the Home Run, DIE by the Home Run,
and that's exactly what the Yankees did.  This was the worst
defeat the Yankees have suffered since being swept by the
Big red Machine Cincinnati Reds in the World Series back in
1976, and even though they blew a 3-0 game lead vs the Red
Sox just a few short years ago, they did win three games.
For an organization that is as prideful as the Yankees, they all
hurt, and this was the 1st time they had ever been swept in an
ALCS, OUCH.

The Yankees couldn't manufacture any runs, got badly out hit
by a team that had the fewest wins of all the playoff teams, 
and the only time they showed ANY life was with the 2 two
run home runs in game one in the bottom of the ninth and
with Eduardo Nunez's solo shot in the top of the ninth on game
three.  That's all this team had going for it, not a single solitary
thing more.

Once their Captain Derek Jeter went down it was even more
evident that any comeback had left the building.  Fans blame
A-Rod, but please feel free to spread the wealth.  Swisher,
Texeira, and Cano among the big names were just as equally
to blame.  Any other thought is ludicrous.  You may and can
look forward to pitchers and catchers in 2013 Yankee fans,
but unless this team gets younger, learns to run, and steal bases,
the only thing you can look forward to is lapping the field in the
regular season and falling on your face during October baseball.

Detroit Lions & Tigers Give City Hope

With Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford doing
their thing for Detroit on Monday Night Football
and the Tigers advancing past the Yankees this
past week, Detroit has plenty to be hopeful about.
Wins aren't going to put food on the table like
jobs and a better economy, but they will help put
a smile on their faces, and that ain't all bad.

Nick Fairly made his debut for the Lions and they
got to be on MNF for the first time in about a
decade, all the while making Jay Cutler run for
his life and joining the Packers as the only two
undefeated teams in the NFL. If both those teams
keep this up their Thanksgiving day match up will
give the fans in Motown plenty to look forward to
before their Turkey hits the table.

The Tigers may be coming home down 0-2, but they
showed Texas that they weren't just going to go
away quietly by taking them to extra innings before
losing game two. Expect the Tigers to give the
folks back home plenty to cheer about, win or lose.
Jim Leyland and the boys certainly will not go down
without a fight, which is exactly what former
professional basketball player and current Mayor
Dave Bing is trying to do with that city, and
if the Lions and Tigers keep this up we'll all be
saying, Oh My.

NY Yankees Are Out, So What!

Let the questions begin for all the entitled
Yankees fans across the country: Will Jorge
Posada be a Yankee next year? NO!, he's done,
not only will he not be a Yankee, he won't be
playing anywhere. Is this what A-Rod is going
to be like going forward? YES! you wanted him,
you got him, and now the effects of enhancing
his body and performance take their toll.
Will Derek Jeter ride out into the sunset on
a winning note? Who knows, with that payroll
anything is possible. SPEND SPEND SPEND, feed
the hungru lion. How else can you justify the
over bloated ticket prices? Will Brain Cashman
still be here to fix all of this? Who gives a
rat's ass, really. Any GM in the Major now can
do as good if not better job with that type of
bankroll. Cashman deserves some credit, and yes
it's true that there are a few out the that would
royally screw it up, but I can assure you that
I wouldn't, and not many worth their salt would.

Suck it up Yankee fans, the days of Wine & Roses
are over. No Scott Brosius, No Tino Martinez,
No Paul O'Neill, and the BOSS is dead. Are the
Tigers a better team? YES!, no they don't have
better players, or more superstars, or as big a
payroll, but they are a better TEAM, and by the
way Red Sox fans, now that you've won a couple
stop feeling so f*#king entitled yourselves.

AJ Burnett Will Be NY Yankees Demise

For those of you expecting anything different,
wake up. This isn't going to be a different
version of the bloody sock. It won't endear
Burnett to Yankees fans, and even though he
won't do it, he should definitely consider
what his life OUTSIDE of baseball will be like.

Burnett may get saved tonight if the Tigers
pitcher manages to throw a worse game than him,
but his time in New York has a shorter shelf
life than listeria laced lettuce. There is
practically no way manager Joe Girardi can pull
Burnett fast enough if the pitcher gets himself
into trouble, which he inevitably will, without
either embarrassing Burnett or some sort of
outcry by the fan base, ownership or critics in
some way. AJ Burnett is without question a
skilled and talented pitcher, but these skills
are no longer the question, and never were.
It's all mental, it's all mental stupid.

What's With This MVP ?

Mathew Bush chosen first overall, and Phillip
Umber chosen third, and then you have to go all
the way down to number twelve before you see a
name that makes any impact to the typical
baseball fan, Jered Weaver. The thirteenth
pick incidentally was made by a team that no
longer exists, the Expos, but who knows, they
might be had they chosen first or second and
were wise enough to draft the name missing from
this article thus far, Justin Verlander. Jered
Weaver just signed a multi year deal this year
that will make him an Anaheim Angel for a long
time to come, and based on his record this year
of 18-7 with a stellar 2.41 era along with a
career record of 82-46, he deserves it, and the
Angels are the benefactors. But let's get back
to Justin Verlander, who this year is really
making waves. The kind of waves that real only
happen once in a while, when people begin arguing
as to whether or not a pitcher, a non everyday
player, is deserving of MVP consideration.

I am of the school that pitchers should not be
considered for MVP, BUT, I do believe that there
are exceptions, and every once in a while, a
special case happens. This is one of those cases.
When Steve Carlton won 27 games in 1972, the
Phillies were miserable, and his wins amounted
to nearly 46% of the Phillies wins, and though
it's tough to be the MVP of the league when
your team stinks, it has been done, ask Andre
Dawson. Though his Cubs didn't stink up the
joint like Carlton's Phillies, they did finish
last, and he still won MVP. Back to my argument.
Verlander has nearly 27% of the Tigers victories
this season and his era of 2.29 is a real gem
in a hitters league like the AL that sports the
DH, and what is an MVP anyway? Is it not a
player that has the most value to a team?,
preferably a winning team? Yankee fans will
scream and shout high from the mountain tops all
the while juggling their 27 trophies and tell you
that Curtis Granderson wuz robbed, when in fact,
though he is more than worthy of consideration,
his supporting cast of, A-Rod, CC, Texeira, Jeter,
Rivera, and company are much more of a compliment
to his numbers than Verlander's team is to him.
With that I won't go over every other player that
is worthy of consideration in the AL this season,
nor will I anoint Verlander MVP. What I will say
however is that in this writers opinion, he is
worthy of consideration, if I voted he would most
probably receive my vote, and what the heck were
the Padres thinking?

Just Sayin'

C'mon Yahoo Sports! The Diamondbacks have
a Six game lead in the NL West and have a
magic number of 20 posted, but the Tigers
in the AL Central have a 5 1/2 lead and
have NO magic number posted??? Was the
math to hard for the guys in sports?

Is it me or did anyone else notice that
Jered Weaver took a boat load less money
and didn't wait to become a free agent
before signing his latest contract?
Incidentally his agent in Scott Boras,
and he didn't take Boras' advice.
Sound familiar? A-Rod 2007 maybe?
BUT my favorite thing about this deal
was Weaver's quote: "If $85 (million)
is not enough to take care of my family
and other generations of families then
I'm pretty stupid, but how much money
do you really need in life?"
If someone has Latrell Sprewell's
address, please forward.

In very sad news, former NHLer Wade
Belak was found dead in Toronto this
past Wednesday, even sadder is the
fact that he is the third former/current
NHL player to be found dead since the
season ended. People die everyday, but
trends like this are kind of noticeable.

College Football starts tonight! Yes, it
truly is September.
