Stone Cold Locks is taking a beating this year, the
record has now dropped to a dismal 15-9, and
1-5 over the last two weeks.  There are no gimmes
this season.  Let's see what this week has in store
for us.  Here goes: 
  
1. Green Bay - My only winner last week, so I'll stick
with them, plus Arizona looks horrible after a 4-0 start. 
 
2. Washington - RGIII shows Cam Newton and the
nation who's the Man.
 
3. Houston - It won't be a very happy homecoming
for Mario Williams as far as I can see.

Stone Cold NFL Locks Week 3

 
Last week I was stunned to see the Patriots fall to
the Arizona Cardinals for my 1st loss of the season, 
but now my mark is 5-1 and I'm one missed field goal
away from having been perfect after two weeks.
This week I will try and get back on track by paying
better attention to staying consistent, but I will admit
this week seems especially hard to pick, here goes:

1. New Orleans - They have to win eventually, and 
this is as good a spot as any.

2. San Francisco - Consistency is what they provide.

3. Washington - A little bit of a reach, but in RGIII I Trust

13 Month NFL Season Continues To Steamroll The Competition

I know that the last time I wrote about how
the NFL season never seems to end I called it
an eleven month season, but after last night's
draft in NYC I find it only right to say to
you that I was wrong, and that thirteen months
is more like it.

I am exaggerating of course, but it is a mild
exaggeration at best. Keep in mind that last
night the draft had a much larger TV audience
then game seven of the New York Rangers, the
Ottawa Senators series in the NHL playoffs.
It's just the NHL you say? Well, the draft is
just like picking sides in a schoolyard pick up
game, game seven is GAME 7, in a sport that has
a reasonable size fan base in North America,
and was an actual game with scoring and stuff.
OK, did you even realize that is was the end of
the NBA season?, or that Kobe Bryant had a shot
at being the third oldest player ever to win a
scoring title, behind Michael Jordan, and, uh,
oh yeah, Michael Jordan? Catch any baseball
scores last night?

I'm certainly not trying to beat this to death,
but take a look around you and watch how many
of your fellow sports fans reference the draft
this weekend, and how many mention the playoffs
in the NHL or NBA, as well as the baseball season,
and that's when you'll realize that the NFL can
put almost any event head to head with any of the
other four or five major sports, and with about
70% of the time or more. What a cash cow !

Colts May Consider Trading Andrew Luck For RGIII

(US Presswire) Though it may not be officially listed as a trade, it would be a change of heart to say the very least. This was something I mentioned soon after the Redskins pulled off that monster draft trade with the St. Louis Rams to move into the second position in the 2012 draft, and even something I recommended the Colts do if I were in their position. Instead of making Andrew Luck the #1 overall pick in the draft, choose RG III instead. Don't believe me? This is what Jim Irsay told the USA today about it:

"It's up in the air. We have to look at this thing completely open-minded. You have 2 outstanding athletes, two great pure passers, two guys from families that are incredible ... If we get to the point where we're going to negotiate early, get something done before the draft, you never rule that out. We've talked to both agents. We haven't negotiated yet."

I have stated more than once that I think RG III is the better QB of the two, and though I don't have the pedigree of a Mike Mayock, or Mel Kiper, I do know what my eyes tell me. I believe that RG III is going to be a better long term solution for any team than Andrew Luck is, but like most predictions, only time will tell who's right. The interesting part of of the possibility that Jim Irsay changes his mind is that the Redskins have already put their eggs in the RG III basket, but as I mentioned when they made this trade, they are in a kind of win win type of situation. Andrew Luck is obviously no schlub, so if Irsay and the Colts should happen to change their minds, they still wind up with Luck. Redskins Move For RG III Is Worth It

With all the talk about Andrew luck these days it's
easy to forget that many a great quarterback failed
to be drafted with the number one overall pick in the
NFL draft. Not only will this continue to happen as
long as a draft exists, but you can count on it to
happen once again in this years event as well.

Robert Griffin III, or RG III is of course who I'm
speaking of. I not only believe that RG III will turn
into a stellar NFL caliber QB, but I am also quite
confident that he will be a better bet to succeed at
that position than the aforementioned Luck. The trade
for the right to pick #2 overall in the 2012 draft and
ultimately get RG III is probably the only thing that
might get the Colts and Luck off the hook pressure wise
when it comes to the draft, and that's only because the
Redskins gave up so much to get him. First round picks
in three drafts and a second round pick in another are
quite the ransom, but if you really want to be fair
about this, and are willing to concede that not only is
Griffin not a lock to succeed and neither is Luck, then
it's only a small price to pay for the guy you want
RIGHT NOW. Normally when you pick first and your pick
doesn't pan out, he is eventually labeled a bust, but
that does not always apply to the #2 pick, because in
essence you had one less choice, and an excuse as well
if #1 does pan out for the team that picks ahead of you.
This year, that won't be the case, not with this trade,
and not with the price that was paid to move up to #2,
and yet I applaud the Redskins for doing this.

Though Daniel Snyder has never been afraid to pull the
trigger on the player he wants, at least this time he
has two guys who know something about football running
the show for him and playing a big part in this trade
in Bruce Allen, and Mike Shananhan. Though I have never
been a big Shanahan supporter, I can't really argue with
this move. It was brash, bold, aggressive, and the right
thing to do. Even if the Colts wise up and see what many
other people are seeing and change their mind to pick
RG III instead of Luck, the Redskins can always say that
they got the best QB in the draft, and that's what they
were hoping for, and save face.

I was kinda rooting for the Browns to pull this off, and
since they were early favorites in moving up into the Rams
spot, it's probably what drove the price up. Holmgren may
be a bright football mind, but letting this one get away
might prove to be a fatal for football in Cleveland for a
little while longer, and it seems as though the fans there
just knew this wasn't going to be an Eric Couch situation
all over again. Looks like Kyrie Irving is going to have
to not only pick up the slack for the LeBron departure, but
for some bad football for Clevelanders as well unless Colt
McCoy has a resurrection of sorts.

Peyton Manning Cleared To Play. Now What?

It's not my money and it's not my team. Heck I
don't even root for the Colts, but as far as I'm
concerned the answer is pretty easy. Keep Peyton
Manning and either draft Andrew Luck and tell him
to sit back, learn and STFU, or trade the pick for
the giant pirates booty it will probably be worth
to every owner and GM who's drooling over it like
their life depends on it.

Manning is the same guy that took a 5 year $90Mil
extension, when Jim Irsay wanted to give him $100Mil
for the same amount of years. Manning is the reason
the Colts even count as an NFL team. He is one of
the biggest contributing factors as to why the city
of Indianapolis is hosting a such a gigantic event
this week. Peyton Manning has been cleared to play
by the top doctor in the area that has ailed Manning
most, and another Doctor just for good measure.
The Colts went from 10-6 in 2010 with Peyton Manning
to 2-14 in 2011 without him, and the team didn't even
change any major parts.

If money is not the issue, and Irsay says it's not,
the answer is beyond clear. Take into account that
this year there will be a rookie salary cap, so
instead of having to pay Manning his $28Mil bonus,
and a rookie another $18Mil or so, to ride the bench,
the hit will be much less, and you can use that $10Mil
that Peyton didn't want to take from you to see how he
does. If he doesn't work out and you are in love with
Andrew Luck and draft him, he will have spent a full
season learning from one of the best QB's the game has
ever seen, be ready to take over. The would show a
little loyalty, and payback someone who deserves it.
Also keep in mind that you can probably trade the pick,
get a huge return, and still draft a QB just in case
there are any further issues, and yes you can probably
trade into a spot to get RG III, who I would much rather
have anyway.

The Andrew Luck media machine is no different than the
next hot quarterback parade that happens EVERY year.
Looking back in retrospect you might think that these
names are bad examples to use here, but I assure you
that at the time these guys were ready to get drafted,
someone had them up on the board as CANNOT MISS picks.
Akili Smith, Tim Couch, JaMarcus Russell, David Carr,
David Klingler, Joey Harrington, Andre Ware, Rick Mirer,
Heath Shuler, Ryan Leaf, sorry couldn't help myself.
Do any of those names ring a bell? Well I'm afraid
the list will only get longer every year, and I'm sorry
to have to throw this out there but, Tom Brady was a
6th round pick, Joe Montana was 3rd round pick, Roger
Staubach was a 10th round pick and Aaron Rodgers was
picked twenty three spots after Alex Smith.

I can't see how this is an issue, I just can't
