Great interview and good timing with the comments by you and Roch! Huff is ripping again tonight and Hendrickson was just awful as predicted. Here are my two cents following your Orioles' discussion.
The Orioles are on the up-and-up, but need a year or two more to season the young guns. And there are a LOT of them potentially. What has been absolutely mind-numbing is that the Orioles are failing in the departments in which the management promised success: defense, fundamental baseball, and increased quality starts. The front office aimed to improve in these areas in no uncertain terms. In no uncertain terms the O's have failed in these domains so far in 2009. I'm not sure this bodes well for Trembley though I happen to be a fan of the man in terms of his character and personality. His vision just isn't being translated. He gets a pass for the first year and a half, but this is getting bad.
On the flip side you accurately mentioned that the offense is solid and once all-universe prospect Matt Weiters joins the mix it might even be classified as "scary". Jones and Markakis are beasts in the post-roids era. Lanky but powerful like the athletes of old. The O's are currently a bit like the Rangers with the potential to be much closer to the Rays if Matusz, Tillman, Arrieta, Patton, Erbe, Hernandez or Hill pan out. Honestly, I think the first 3 will be very, very good.
Anyway- great stuff Nick! Can't wait to listen to the follow-up when hopefully Eaton and Hendrickson will be out of the rotation and the Birds are closing in on .500.
